What We Got Here Is A Failure To Communicate

In following current trends, we must pay close attention to the growing catalogue of white supremacist institutions that are found on the naughty list of the mainstream-media-hungry anti-racist lunatics .  Definitely making the list is education specifically math.  The thought that math is objective with correct answers is obviously Klan propaganda and an existential threat. #yetanotherbiglie  #2plus2canbewhateverIsayitisbigot

Many high ranking professional in education are focusing in on this "problem."  The Oregon Department of Education states: “The concept of mathematics being purely objective is unequivocally false.” Tracy Castro-Gill, the ethnic studies program manager of the Seattle Public School, suggests that the problem is “how math is used as a tool for oppression.”  #tooltime

You would think that requiring students to be able to demonstrate the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, understand fractions, and solve word problems is a normal part of school.  Most refer to this practice as math education.  Worldwide, there is a number system and related logical processes (not pronounced processees #pompousidiot) using numbers to indicate results. #noduh  Putting a policy in place that does not require mastery learning seems contrary to the goal of education.  It seems like actual oppression as well as being really racist. How fucked up is it to say that someone is incapable of learning how to solve math problems because of how they look? #itsoksweetieletsjustmoveon

Requiring students to learn and use basic operations to figure out the correct answers in math problems disproportionately disenfranchises students of color.  Is that the argument?  I would argue that those requirements objectively identify students based on their abilities to succeed in the classroom independent of race.  That success has everything to do with work ethic and effort.  Diligent students of all colors succeed.  Lazy undisciplined students of all colors who couldn't care less about learning usually fail.  #claimingstudentsofcoloraremathematicallydeficientsoundskindaracist

We are not talking about higher level career specific applied mathematics or abstract algebra.  The issue at hand is the foundation of math (the basics) starting with counting. #jimcrowcreatedfractions  Can someone please explain the exact point when math becomes racist?  Or, is it bigoted from the start?  #zeroisobviouslyracist

Keep in mind this racism is exclusively white owned.
Rochelle Gutierrez, education professor at the University of Illinois, stated, “On many levels, mathematics itself operates as Whiteness.”  #alerttheworldwemustendwhitemathsupremacy  #blackmathsmatter

Laurie Rubel, Brooklyn College Professor of Math Education, brilliantly u
nlocked the secret of this evil power structure on Twitter

The idea that math (or data) is culturally neutral or in any way objective is a MYTH. I’m ready to move on with that understanding. Who’s coming with me?” In another tweet, she added: “Along with the ‘of course math is neutral because 2+2=4’ trope and the related (and creepy) ‘math is pure’ and ‘protect math.’ Reeks of White supremacist patriarchy. I’d rather think on nurturing people & protecting the planet (with math in service of their goals).” #beingaprofessormeansyoureintelligentisamyth

Notice
the 2+2=4 equation “reeks of white supremacist patriarchy.”  See what Laurie did there?  It was not only white supremacy which by itself is reprehensible.  It was male driven white supremacy.  #whosyourdaddy   Those damn evil white men!  But, doesn't current groupthink ideology prevent acknowledging any distinctions between men and women?  #mysogynistcrackernonetheless

White supremacy culture apparently runs rampant in math classrooms according to these fearless social justice superheroes.  The following is a very limited, partial list of some of the evil flaws in the current white supremacist teaching of mathematics mentioned in "A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction-Dismantling Racism in Mathematics Instruction."
1) The focus is on getting the right answer. 2) Students are tracked into courses/pathways and within the classroom.  3)  Teachers are teachers and students are learners.  4)  "Good" math teaching is considered an antidote for mathematical inequity.  5) Grading practices are focused on lack of knowledge.  #socialjusticemathwarriorscomeoutandplay

So, let me try and summarize the equitable expectations for antiracist math instruction.  Math education should not focus on procedural knowledge that results in objectively correct answers.  Because correct answers represent the man (evil white men) and students of color don't want to be associated with whiteness (doing math correctly)?  Or, are they claiming that students of color are incapable of getting the correct answers, so therefore it's racist?  Whatever the reasoning, numbers need to lose all inherent meaning and become like random jigsaw puzzle pieces that you can put together any way that you like, and you are correct.  #soundseasyenough  So, no need for teachers at all then.  #moreamericanjobsgoneyesssss

Kinda sounds like the goal is to strip all significance and usefulness from an important subject that has universal application and extreme relevance to everyone on the planet in response to a perceived threat from evil white supremacist boogeymen/boogeywomen (boogeypeople?).  #perceptionsarereality  #socialjusticewarriorsoftheworlduniteandtakeover

In Equity Land, everyone is correct no matter what answers are given, so no student tracking within classrooms is necessary.  #equitymathiseasy  Everyone passes with top marks in equitable math regardless of accuracy.  #accuracyisracist  Now that any answer is correct, who's to say "no answer" isn't correct as well. #participationinlearningnolongerrequired

Everyone is in the top track.  #fasttracktothepoorhouse.  Feelings matter more than objective real world skills. #addingschmadding  #whenamievergonnausethis  Who needs to be able to figure out a monthly budget anyway?  You don't know what a fraction is or how to divide, but you got straight As in math. #youdamanoryoudawomanoryoudauhhjustforgetit

With regard to the actual teaching of math, students should be the teachers while teachers are simply room monitors/attendance takers.  Are we still good with attendance or has it become racist too?  #keepupcracker  Basically, teachers are now babysitters that will occasionally implement restorative justice measures on the white supremacist asshole students when they get caught doing racist hate crimes like they do on the students of color.  Obviously, the little white pricks must still remain in the traditional role of students because of their implicit bias and obvious racism.  Allowing white students to teach the class would just continue the inequity.  #sitdownandshutupcracker  #outofthefryingpanintothefire

By eliminating any objective standard and giving everyone a math trophy, inequity is destroyed. #goodjobwarriors  #movingon  #nextproblemplease  Trashing this "good" math teaching and replacing it with non-white anti-racist student led teaching is their solution.  #destroyingwhitesupremacyonesubjectatatime  Now, all math students will be collectively math illiterate and suffer greatly when it comes to anything related to numbers, but maybe they'll feel good about themselves.  And in the end, feelings are way more important than real world skills.  #feelings>facts

Homework policies must be adapted to fit the needs of students of color.  I actually don't know what this means entirely.  Since the students of color are now the teachers, aren't they already creating the homework?  But seriously, does homework need to be segregated?  #antiracismmeansbringingbacksegregation   What are these differing needs that need to be accommodated?  Is the argument that students of color can't do the homework as assigned because of their skin color?  If so, that seems inconsistent with anti-racism.  Or is the purpose of homework to somehow fuck over students of color?  #jimcrowcreatedhomeworktoo #theenemyofmyenemyisthefriendofmyenemiesfriendsuhyouknowthething

Teachers are called to, teach the value of math as both an abstract concept and as a useful everyday tool.  This is where the train derails into a black hole of nonsense.  #whydoestheholehavetobeblackcracker  #youhavederailed

The actual knowledge of math is a very useful everyday tool.  For most of us, it's a necessity.  The problem is that this "equitable teaching" model doesn't actually create any proficiency in the application of the tool.  This practical and necessary tool will now be rendered useless through designed incompetence.  #doesanyoneknowhowtousethis

For example, let's imagine that math is a specific tool, a shovel. #iliketoimagineunicorns  If you learn how to use it and build up your strength and dexterity by practicing it's use, then you could be qualified to get a job digging holes or one of the many other shovel related careers or professions.  This "new equitable" math basically turns that shovel into a pool noodle.  Equitable math student/teachers will probably teach themselves how to hit each other with it.  How many holes do you think they'll be able to dig?  #abigmorbidlyobesezero

Teachers are also called to, Expose students to examples of people who have used math as resistance.  Why do teachers need to tie learning to resistance?  Pardon my stupidity, I momentarily forgot about the existential threat of white supremacy.  #imsuchanidiot  Unfortunately, students will not be able to emulate any of these resistors that used math, because ironically we are fashioning a new equitable system where they can't do math.  #isntitironicdontyouthink

Math classrooms are asked to expose students to mathematicians of color, particularly women of color and queer mathematicians of color, both through historical examples and by inviting community guest speakers.  How about we expose students to the teaching of math principles?  Math is about numbers and the proficiency in using them to solve problems.  Does anyone care if Lil Nas X or Lizzo are good at math?  #zerofucksgiven

Math instruction must honor and acknowledge the mathematical knowledge of students of color, even if it shows up unconventionally.  Teachers recognize mathematical knowledge in all students when they demonstrate it.  That knowledge is demonstrated by getting the correct answer by using the correct operations when necessary.  That's the beauty of math!  When you are right, you are right.  No one, racist or otherwise, can take that away!  2 plus 2 does equal 4 no matter what you look like.  #numbersseenocolor  It would be awesome to know what unconventional math knowledge looks like. #themoreyouknow

Answers in mathematics problems are absolutely objective.  Claiming that numbers are white supremacist weapons to keep down people of color is insanely delusional.  Suggesting that people of color can't do math as well as the 'melanin deficient enemies of all that is good and loving' is top shelf bigotry on top of being the figurative cherry on top of a Jim Crow vanilla sundae of racism served at the Ku Klux Klan's version of Top Gun. #unitybydivision  #whitechocolate

The following commandment from 'A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction' is by far the most important and ground breaking.  Aside from all of the other significant procedural changes that need to be made in the math classroom, we must begin to
"recognize mistakes as miscommunicated knowledge."   #everythingwrongisrightagain

With the secret to equity unlocked, we need to root out all the places in this evil country that need some equitizing.  This anti-racist framework can be used to thwart white supremacy wherever and whenever it rears its ugly head.  #whitesupremacistwackamole  We can start with these.

Recognize lies as miscommunicated truths. #lyingliarswholiearetruthtellers

Recognize stupidity as unrecognized brilliance. #sendmensatocnnstat

Recognize morbid obesity as hidden physical fitness.  #passmethesyrupineedtoworkout

Recognize unpaid rent as paid rent that hasn't happened yet.  #fivehundredtwentyfivethousandsixhundredminutes

Recognize drive by shootings as humanitarians delivering care packages to those in need.  #aredrivebyswhitesupremacytoo

But to be serious, recognize your conspiracy theories about white supremacy as the ugly inner racism and weakness that you are plagued with and get some therapy.  #getthatshitouttahere

Knowledge in math is fairly measured by the ability to solve math problems correctly.  Grades are based on demonstration of that knowledge on assigned work, quizzes, and tests.  Working hard and demonstrating that a student has learned by doing the assigned work correctly will get any student a good grade independent of what he/she/xim/xam/wella/walla/bim/bam/+ looks like.  #icantjustshowup  #objectivestandardsfortheebutnotformewhitey

And further to the creators, please understand that 'A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction' is one of the most insanely idiotic things that I have ever read.  At no point in your rambling, incoherent 82 page document were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought.  Anyone who read it is now dumber for having done so.  I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.  #chloraphyllmorelikeboraphyll
