Knife Control Now
Apparently according to this journalist, LeBron James is smart and correct, and the police are killers. Thanks for your insight Dave. #accountability
We live in interesting times. And by interesting, I mean ignorant and insane. Calls to abolish the police one day are followed by calls to the police for help the next day and all too often are followed by protests to convict specific police officers for doing the job that they were called/hired to do. #policingisacrime #crimeisnowok #exceptthecrimeofpolicingthatisstillbad
Not being a police officer, I don’t have on-the-job experience to base my opinions on. I’m also not a political sportswriter like Dave or an NBA worldwide phenomenon like Lebron James. I like to think that I am a somewhat intelligent observer who can use logic and reason to assess unique life situations free from groupthink bias. #apparentlyhighbasketballiqdoesnottranslate
“James — and many, many others — clearly believe there had to be a method to de-escalate the situation without shooting and killing a 16-year-old child, even if she was holding a knife at the time.” You see what unbiased law enforcement expert Dave did there? The 16-year-old child was simply holding a knife. Another way to put it would be a large female (age unknown to the officer) was in the process of a powerful rage induced right hook stabbing motion with a deadly weapon aimed at another smaller female? Watch the video, and you decide. #knifewieldingassailantslivesmatter
Many, many people also believe that the Earth is flat. Does that mean the Earth is flat, Dave? Many, many people believe that Bigfoot exists. Does that belief bring him into existence? #dontforgetaboutoldnessie #whataboutelchupacabrayouracist
Does believing that there has to be a method in existence to de-escalate a specific difficult situation magically make that method exist? #ithinkitthereforeitis #unicornsarepretty
When police are called to and arrive at a scene where they witness a crime in progress, what should they do Dave, Lebron? MSNBC’s Joy Reid recalled, "I remember fights in, even high school, or even younger than that, where a kid brought a pen knife or something to school and teachers were able to defuse that and they didn’t have guns." So instead of calling 911, they should have called the local school district? #dispatchweneedanenglishteachertostopamurder
One time, the workers at a grocery store were able to thwart a criminal, and they didn’t have guns either. #criminaldeescalationonaisle13
Had the police officer not done his job, a woman would have been injured and possibly killed. Even if restraining the knife wielding assailant was possible others could have been injured as well. I’m waiting to hear about any viable alternatives, these secret “methods to de-escalate the situation,” from these many, many others. Just one method will do. I’ll wait. #crickets
Let’s work out some other scenarios. Shall we? #tryingtounlockthesecret
He could have fired his gun into the air like a starter’s pistol. Then, the 16-year-old child doing her best Jason Vorhees (or maybe it was Michael Meyers) impression would have immediately recognized that she should stop her attack midstab? This method has always been 100% effective in western television shows and feature films. #onyourmarkgetsetdontstab
Hopefully, that bullet doesn’t hit anyone when it comes back down. #whatgoesup
He could have said in a firm yet non gender assuming, fair and non judgemental way , “Halt young person! Please don’t stab that other person.” #thepowerofwords
Then after the weapon was confiscated, they could have all drank Coca Cola and played a game of soccer in the front yard. It appears from the video that the adult male has a great free kick. #aysodadsrock
He could have employed those routinely taught law enforcement sanctioned ninja skills that he learned in the police academy. #ninjacop We all know the two most common ninja strategies he could have used. A simple flying front flip to targeted wrist control pressure point knife release, obviously. If he wanted to show off, there’s the front roll super jump into flying precision front kick to the wrist sending the knife into the air. Immediately upon landing on the roof of the car, he launches into a backflip grabbing the knife mid air landing in between the 16-year-old child and the woman in pink. #tellmesomethingidontknow
At this point, he would make use of that secret unknown de-escalation strategy that many, many people believe had to exist. #drphilaintgotnothinonhim
He could have simply shot the knife out of her hand knocking it safely to the ground while simultaneously calculating the specific geometry and the pertinent ricochet science to make sure that the bullet or the knife does not end up striking any bystander or damaging any property. We’ve all seen this done countless times in movies. #stoppretendingthathiswouldnthaveworked
He could have sprinted with his world record speed. He runs a 4.1 in the 40, right? #usainboltwho
He could then grab the 16-year-old child firmly yet tenderly by the wrist thus restraining and negating her impending and powerful death blows. #catlikereflexes #perfectblendofspeedandstrength
Then, he could kindly whisper into her 16-year-old child's ear to please release the knife. If she didn’t immediately comply, he could remind her that she is only a 16-year-old child. #kidsdothedarndestthings
He could have holstered his gun #reversequickdraw, grabbed his taser, and attempted to tase her. That could have gone a few ways. He could have missed, and the victim is stabbed repeatedly and probably killed. He could have not missed, but the victim would have still received at least one stab wound and still possibly killed. #donttasemebro #onlyafleshwound
He could have stayed in his car, ate donuts, and watched from afar as the “16-year-old child holding a knife” brutally and possibly fatally assaulted the woman in pink. That would be a dereliction of his duties. Police officers are paid to protect and serve. In the case of a criminal and a victim, who should he protect? Dave, Lebron, Joy, what should police officers do? Quit the force and train to be an Olympic sprinter? #goforthegold
Should he A) disregard the crime and let a woman be assaulted and possibly killed by the perpetrator, thus protecting the criminal (one who has committed a crime) to the detriment of the victim? Or, should he B) address the crime in progress and protect the victim from being assaulted and possibly killed, thus protecting the victim? There’s always C) none of the above where the end result becomes a mostly peaceful protest to get the officer fired after letting the crime happen or to eliminate law enforcement. #defundstupidity
But, it was just a common everyday knife fight, right Joy? Was it like the ‘Beat It’ video? #youreplayingwithyourlifethisaintnotruthordare
The woman in pink didn’t have a knife though. She was unarmed (not equipped with or carrying weapons) and all but defenseless against the significantly larger “16-year-old child simply holding a knife.” I think that it’s safe to say that the officer didn’t want to kill anyone. He was doing his job which unfortunately sometimes involves the use of deadly force. That job was to protect the victim from the assailant (someone who attacks someone violently). It does not matter that the assailant was a 16-year-old child. #mostlypeacefulattemptedmurder
Which job is the most difficult? Political sportswriter, television personality, professional basketball player or police officer? Which one of those jobs most benefits a civil society? From the opinions shared by Dave, Lebron, and Joy, each appear to be intellectually incapable of being anything more than implicit idiots on the topic of policing. #stayinyourlane #theslowlane
It’s time that the real problem is addressed. No, it’s not police brutality, unchecked criminal activity, or generalized systemic anything. It’s obviously the Samurai sword wielding elephant in the room, knife control. #sharpstabbythingsarebad
You might not be aware of this, but you can simply walk into any Bed, Bath, and Beyond and pick up a knife block filled with 18 knives including some very sharp kitchen shears! No background check! No waiting period! #cutitout
There are random boxes of knives with some unsecured knives on display. No secured case that must be unlocked by security holding these countless instruments of death. This horrifying scenario plays out in department stores across the globe. This is an outrage! Can someone explain to me why anyone needs that many knives? High capacity knife blocks must be illegal! #commonsenseknifereformnow
And what about Rambo knives? #weallcanallagreerambowasapsycho
Don’t try to give me some bullshit about you being a hunter! “It’s a sport knife,” they say. Yeah right! It’s obvious to all of us that you are a sociopath if you own one of these. In addition to high capacity knife blocks, Rambo knives must be outlawed! #thear15ofblades
Don’t even get me started on knife accountability. For all intents and purposes, we live in a world filled with “ghost” knives. Most do not have serial numbers and those that do are never linked with the original purchaser since no paperwork is ever required. You could literally own millions of knives! After firearms, knives are the most common weapon used for murder. #dontevengetmestartedonshivs
It is clear that humanity has a problem. Clearly, it’s clear that knives present a clear and present danger. #crystalclear
It is time for a ban on large capacity knife blocks. It is time for the elimination of all “Rambo” knives and other “sport” killing blades. We must also eliminate “ghost” knives and have mandatory background checks/waiting periods before a limited number of serial numbered knives are sold to qualified citizens. #wedontcareifyouonlywantedtocutyourdinnersteak
